Five of The Best,
- Free Flyer pack by: http://www.dontpaniconline.com/ design by Phill Corbett: http://www.philcorbett.com/
Not really A flyer in itself but an envelope design to hold a pack of flyers for various club nights. Very cool illustration makes this pack pretty irresistible to pick up and open. 'Free' and 'Don't Panic' are good messages to communicate with new students!
- Habit at The Space
Nice idea, well executed I think. The flyer is about the same size as a box of fags but looks different enough not to be confused as an advert for cigs in itself (not that you can actually advertise them anymore). This gets the message across well but address of the club and website has been left out so I don't actually know where 'The Space' is (i'm new to Leeds)
- Bad Robot at Leeds Uni, http://www.badrobotclub.com/
Very professional looking, I love the 3d illustration on the front and the clear layout of the back of this. I like the use of the dark green/gray instead of black for type to keep a simple but effective colour pallet.
- Bad Sneakers at Faversham, http://www.thefaversham.com/
Nice job, it looks good, stands out from the rest and it communicates, 'nuff said.
- Purrfect Electro at The Space
This is another Flyer for 'The Space' club. Very effective use of photo imagery enhanced with some illustrative work. Purrfect electro : cat and lightning! great. Also the cool blue, black and white colours stood out from the (seems like) 100's of other flyers I had in my pile in 100% yellow and magenta.
Five of the Worst,
- Carnage
To me this looks more like a sale in a discount carpet warehouse than a club night, very tacky and confusing
- House of fun at Comedy Club
Cheezy logo, cheap looking and just generally naff.
- The Ark
This is just embarrassing, A4 colour laserjet printed handout, inept design even by MS word standards.
- Roller Disco at Jongleurs
Not much effort gone into making this look good. Maybe a rushed job and it is passable at first glance but I hate the way the logo is bent round and doesn't quite line up on the mirror ball. The outline skates on the back look shit as well.
- OK Karaoke - Acceptable in the 80's/I Wanna be a Rockstar!
I would have thought it should have been easy to come up with fun retro visuals for an 80's club night but the designer has made a half hearted effort here. This is well below par I feel.
I will do another round up in a few week if I get handed enough new flyers.
